With Frank Gore showing the ability to be a full-time feature back, one might think that the 49ers might run more, cutting into Smith's passing stats. But with the woeful state of the Niners' defense, I'm betting the offense will be playing catchup often & that means through the air.
I'm not thrilled about the WRs that Smith has to work with, but Tom Brady has put up great fantasy #s without great WRs for years now.
I'm not convinced that Parcells will bench Bledsoe. If given enough time to throw, he can win games. Between Bledsoe and Smith, you may have to make your decisions every week based on whom they're playing.

Alex Smith does have the potential to be a good Fantasy Football QB. He passed for well over 200 yards with 1 TD the first week. Just be aware, he is still experiencing growing pains in the NFL. He may have a few games where he gets a decent amount of interceptions. The positives are that he has a better receiving core this year in Antonio Bryant and Vernon Davis and a better offensive line. He will have potential to pass for a decent amount of yardage. Just use him in spot starts.. He is okay for a 2nd quarterback, but not starting.

Smith is worth no better than a spot start against someone like, well Arizona's defense.
He's improved from last year, but he is going to get pasted each and every week. He's not your "bread and butter" option each week.
Bledsoe should be fine, but he's on a short leash.
You are wise to be looking for a QB. If you can, jettison some garabge from your bench and grab Pennington. When healthy, he is a serviceable option. Or, see if the Jake Plummer owner is panicking. He's incredible in Denver HOME games.
You are going to have to play QB-by-committee this season.

I think he will be an average QB at best.
He is too young and makes too many mistakes. Last year, he had 1 TD and 11 INTs, in less then half a season. To those who say that the 49ers will always be down, so it forces him to pass, it will just mean more rushed decisions, and more picks.
I think he needs better players surrounding him to succeed more.

I really think that he does. The 9ers are going to be down almost every game. This forces lots of passing and good stats. His ints may be high but as for good fantasy stats he should do well. If they can form any resemblance to a running game that will help even more.

i think he might be OK but last week they only played the cardinals it will be much harder for him and he has a lot to learn i would go with Bledsoe this weekend since they are playing the redskins and there will be a miss match with Carlos Rodgers covering T.O. and Shawn Springs not being able to play so don't give up on Bledsoe until he is actually benched

he will throw a million interceptions again..he has no one to throw to!...and the dallas thing is completely false..where the hell did you hear that?..Parcells said Drew is starting..and he is..they wouldn't bench the starter after 1 game..and what kind of fantasy football team do you have if thats the best 2 QBs you have?..destined to lose it sounds like

I think that he can be a good option. They have a system built around him and Norv Turner is one of the best coordinators in the league. He may have blow up in a game of two but he is still only 21.
