If you don't want to get a new SSN# call up all three of the credit bureaus and tell them you want to put an alert on your credit report. That means that when they go to apply for any line of credit that they have to call you directly and make sure that it is you that is getting the line of credit. If it is not you then they will not allow the store/credit card to give the line of credit. Please keep a close check on your credit report from now on just in case you see some activity on there that doesn't belong to you.
