The typical supernova releases 10^43 Joules of energy in the form of visible light, and about 10^45 joules in the form of neutrinos. All of this is in the time span of a few seconds.
So, pretty strong.
I'm sure there are cosmic forces out there that could put out more energy. The big bang, for one.

Hard Gamma Ray Bursts are the biggest bangs since the big bang. They are believed to be caused by the so-called hyper nova, which is basically when a star going supernova is so massive that the explosion fails to blow the star apart. The resulting black hole then sucks in the remainder of the star, releasing a GRB which can pack the energy our sun will release over 10 billion years into a few seconds of time.
Quasars are long-term dynamos actually driven by a similar mechanism to the GRB, but the influx of material into the super-massive black hole is not nearly as rapid as with a GRB.

A Supernova is probaly the most massive outpouring of energy from a single star. However, I understand that Qasars are more energetic. They are on the periphery of the visible universe, so they are not a threat, whereas a star going supernova within 100 light years of us could give us a lot of grief.
Have to look that one up though. Anyone, please feel free to correct me on the supernova v quasar.

Gamma Ray Bursters.
The source for GRBs is unknown, but may be caused by the merger or a black hole with a massive star, or another black hole.
The strength of a supernova is dependent on the type and size of the star.

The force behind a supernova is of great magnitude. But a much greater force is emitted in the generating of a blackhole.

Extremely powerful
And I'd say the only entity more powerful wuld be a whopping black hole.

Yes there is something stronger tahn a supernova----- you can find it in the old testament book of Joshua where God cause the sun to stand still i think it was for 3hrs in other words He stopped time----- and its called prayer--read it for yourself---------- ain't that something ???
