My smoke detectors are hardwired with a battery in them for backup in case the electric goes out. They beep whenever the batteries are going dead. Mine have a small tab that sticks out, just pull the tab out and there will be a 9 volt battery in there. Pop out the old one and put the new one in the same way. If it still beeps the battery is probably in wrong.

I have wired many of these detectors and they almost always have battery backup, now the law requires it. get the old battery out and install a new one...it will fix it.
