I suppose it is because there are a lot of athletic moves and skills required for some of the moves. However, I'm not a cheerleader and we don't really have that at all in the UK so I only know about cheerleading what I've seen on TV and in movies. Still, it looks really fun but also as if you would have to be really fit and in shape to do it. I think a lot of people stereotype cheerleaders as vain, airhead type, rich girl posers but I'm sure in reality that really is not true :)

Competitive Cheerleading is a sport but Cheerleading for a football team/basket ball team is not its just annoying.

You know, all of my little nieces (5 of them) are into competitive cheerleading and put in 4-5 hours a day/5 days a week for practice. While I think it IS alot of work, I don't think it should be classified as a "sport".

Yes I do, its hard work and quite a physical work out.
Keep it up, my granddaughter is going to a new gymnastic club
where once a week cheerleaders train. And she was all exired, now she wants to become a cheerleader and recited me their cheer over the phone, she's memorized it first time. But it'll be a while, she's only 9.

It most definitely is a sport these days.
It used to be simply an acceptable way to flaunt one's body.
Now it is both.
