Dryers are called Dryers because they take the moisture/water out of clothes, therefore drying them. Something that dries is called a dryer.

Dryer is short for Clothes Dryer..Just like you call a dryer for Hair a Hair Dryer..Duh....If it gets something dry it's a dryer...
