In those three years do you think a lot of changing and maturing into adulthood occurs, or are 17 year olds as young as 14 and 13 year olds?

There could be a difference, but it's not sure. it depends on the person's personal experiences. The more he has discovered, the more experienced he will be, therefore, mature. Usually the more independent persons mature quicker.
So, a 14 year old could act like a 17 if he experienced as many things as a 17 year old, and a 17 year old could act as a 21 or even more.

I have a 18 year old friend and we have known each other for 2 years. I can tell you for sure that there's a huge difference between 16 and 18. At 16, all she cared about were parties, shows on TV, if she did her homework and if that cute boy from school smiled at her. At 18, she became more aware of her appearance, she started engaging in more and more sophisticated discussions, claimed her right of making her own decisions, she's thinking about her future carrier and there are a lot more to say.

I also know somebody that spent most of his 14-17 period playing at his computer. He hasn't changed much.

In conclusion, I think is not the age that makes the difference, but the person and the social interactivity the person had in this period.

A resounding NO and a resounding YES. Physically there will of course be a difference between a 14 and 17 year old just as there is between a 17 and 20 years old. I do not think that is your question though. Emotionally, the 17 year olds have simply had more experiences and that makes a difference in attitudes and emotions. Intellectually and mentally, 13 or there abouts is the last year of childhood mentality. I have trained thousands of students ranging from babies to adults, and I can say that from the age of 14, mental and intellectual capabilities are the same as a full grown adult. If given new information and problems without any previously learned associations, both a 14 and 17 and 30 year old will react the same.

There is usually a huge difference, although people do mature at different rates. There are always exceptions but the typical 17 year old is significantly more mature than a 14 year old, socially, mentally and other wise. The 14 year old should be holding on to child hood as long as they can while the 17 year old should begin preparing to be an adult.

A whole age of experience!
My 11 year olds are far more mature in some ways than when they were 10 but in other ways they have regressed to 4yeasr old!
Young people grow in maturity and physicality at different rates due to so many factors, enviroment, culture, social skills etc... I say enjoy being 14 then enjoy being 17... it only lasts 365 days!

I think there is a big difference between the two ages. A 17 year old is much more mature than a 14 year old, this is when a lot of the changes occur. They stop being moody teens and start resembling humans again!

They all mature at different levels. Some at 17 have never reached maturity ; others are mature at 13 . Each one is different ; but on the whole , maturity is more apt to peak at 17 , than 13 or 14 .

Depends on the kid...some 14 yr olds are more mature than 17 yr olds & vice versa...changes occur as their lives evolve & grow within a family & among friends..& mentally it can be just as much as an adventure for them..Your as young or as old as ya feel no matter what age a person is..*rock on*
