And if I do, how do I get rid of it?

It can be tricky to detect. There are tools like KLDetector (http://www.snapfiles.com/get/kldetector.html) but it won't catch everything and you have to interpret the results. A good firewall (not the WinXP firewall, which doesn't block outgoing traffic) will hopefully catch the attempt to transmit the information. All in all, you can't really know if there's a well-hidden one.

You probably can't do that without security software like Adaware, Norton or Symantec, or anything of that sort. Usually, these security programs have an option of deleting the malicious files after the scan.
