I am a big fan of jazz and funk bands- mostly with great sounding sax players. Like Charlie parker, John Coltrane, Marcus Miller, Dave Weckl and Cannonball Adderly- can recommend any more?

I also think you should check out Maceo Parker. He played for Soul brother number 1 (James Brown) way back in the day. He's more jazzy by himself.

I also agree about Medeski Martin and Wood. See them live. The audience is like a sea of people dancing all funky.

In a more jazzy direction...
Try Brother Fred McGriff and Eddie Harris.Personally, I don't like
them, but maybe you will.

In an even more jazzy direction...
Herbie Hancock's album Headhunters is a funk classic.

If you see an album with Sam Jones and Roy Haynes (bass&drums), then it's probably jazz with funk influence. I think they were on a few Cannonball albums.

What funky albums did Coltrane play on? Anybody,,,?

If I had your email address, I'd send you two songs by a Norweigen Jazz composer named Øystein Sevåg. He has a tenor player named Bendyk Hofseth that will make you float. Or search for "Norweigen Mood" and "There's A Monk In My Garden".

try maceo paker ("funk overload"). that's pure funk.
also try galactic ("crazyhorse mongoose"). it's a bit stranger than the oher.
the best funk album I've ever heard is "mothership connection" from parliament.

jazz bands you can try with "medeski martin and woods". And please try "monk's dream" by thelonious monk with john coltrane.
