On limewire what does SPEED & BITRATE mean?? Ok I know what speed means but it normally has one of these descriptions for the SPEED of the songs: T3 or Higher, Cable/DSL, T1 or Modem and sometimes some work especially "T3 or Higher" but not all the others do. Can someone explain what they each mean and why some work and others don't?
Also what is the BITRATE??

P.s-Also please try and explain as simply as possible because I'm not good on computer language;)

Thank You

The "Speed" column on the display tells you what type of connection the computer offering the song has.

T3 is one of the best types of Internet connections available, and is capable of about 45 megabytes per second (An average song is about 4 megabytes.) T3 is commonly used by businesses and organizations.

T1 is an older version of T3 which can reach speeds of 1.54 megabytes per second.

Cable/DSL is the most common type of Internet connection for consumers in the USA. Cable connects to the Internet through Cable TV wires. Cable can theoretically reach speeds of 30 megabytes per second. DSL uses the same lines as dial-up (connecting through a phone network) but instead of going through phone companies like AT&T, connects directly to the DSL central office. DSL can reach 10 megabytes per second.

Modem connections were the first type, and are currently the least expensive. The fastest a modem can handle is 56 kilobytes per second. There are 1000 kilobytes in a megabyte, so modems work at about 0.056 megabytes per second.

The speeds I have stated here are download speeds, not upload speeds. T3 and T1 connections generally upload and download blazing fast, so there is no problem. But Cable/DSL and Modem connections are not designed to send large amounts of data to other computers. So, when a DSL/Cable or Modem connection is sending a song to you, YOUR download rate depends on the upload rate of their computer.

My opinion on connections: Go with T1 and T3, but if they are not available, use a Cable/DSL connection. I can't reccomend trying a Modem connection.

To answer your question about bitrate... Bitrate is a measure of how dense an audio file is. Bitrates are always multiples of four (32, 64, 128, and 256, etc.) 128 kilobytes per second is around CD quality. The higher the bitrate, the better the song will sound, BUT the larger the file will be (and the longer it will take to download.)

Speed is the speed of the connection that the user you are downloading from. If it says Cable/DSL, then the user you are downloading from is using Cable or DSL. It's not foolproof, because the user can set whatever they want.

Bitrate refers to the quality of the music file. The higher the bitrate, the better quality (usually) the music. You won't be able to tell too much on headphones or cheapo computer speakers, but if you are making CD's for play in stereo systems, get at least 128 bit. 196 bit is near CD quality and you shouldn't be able to tell the difference between a song recorded at 196 and one that is recorded at a higher rate.

The thing to remember about bitrate is the higher the bitrate, the larger the file and the longer the download.

Bitrate: The speed at which data travels from one place to another on a computer network, such as the Internet, measured in bits (see kbps or Mbps).

When you upload a file to Limewire, you must specify what is your internet connection speed. If people put T3, they lie. Most people have DSL or Cable connection. T3 is very expensive is used by big corporations.

hhh zarait's explanation of speed is a good one but you havent got a good bitrate explanation yet.
in Limewire, Bitrate refers to the song, not the data transfer like what centaurshirom is saying,

A Bit is a single piece of computerised data, and Bitrate refers essentially refers to the number of bits in the data. it is the Rate of Bits (bit-rate) being read at any one time, so therefore the more bits are being read, the more detail there is in the song and therefore the sound quality should be better if the bitrate is higher.

However, CD quality is 128 (im referring to an mp3 file) and anything higher than that is unnecessary because our ears cannot hear any more detail than that.

^that is only true for mp3 files, wav and wma files maty differ

speed and bitrate are basically saying the same thing, the amount of bits than can be sent per second. there are 8 bytes in one bit, and is used in this manner to work with the computer system itself "binary" and such.

T1 and T3 are describing the amount of information that can be sent through a cable, the higher the number the larger amount of information that is able to be passed through them. Dsl (digital subscriber line) Adsl (asynchronous digital subscriber line)

ok th bitrate is the quality basically so the higher th bitrate- th higher the quality, Speed depends on ur internet connection, if you have an dial up, like a modem that makes the beep noises, , use t1 or if it is faster, use t2 or if it is the speed of a work computer, use T3

modem is the slowest media of internet, cable, isdn are almost 10 time faster than modem and t1 and t3 are more faster than broadband like isdn ,cable. the download speed on lilmewire depends on many things. 1. the media t or t3 is better 2. the number of seeders should be higher. 3. the no. of leechers should be less. seeders are the computers uploading the file and leechers are comuters downloading the file.

the higher the bitrate the better the quality, t3etc is just different network speeds, most people are cable/dsl.. and the speed you dld at is decided by the uploader so the more hosts you can get the better chance of a faster dld

i think that T3 or higher and things like that mean the speed of your Internet server, so don't work because they are no longer available limewire shares all your that you said they can share for everyone to download so if you have deleted a song from your computer and then someone tries to download it it would not work. Hope you know what i mean!!

Its completely criminal to apply Limewire and Limewire professional. Its in basic terms what you get carry of and wether you're entitled to a replica is yet another element. To get carry of William Peterson is against the regulation in case you do no longer already very own the dvd. you will desire to purchase it or would finally end up identifying to purchase 10,000 copies of the dvd and doubtless penitentiary time....in case you're traced and loose in court docket.
