Your hard drive is complete wiped out from the format. When you format your drive, it rewrites over everything and prepares it for a new installation. You will have to use your XP disk to reinstall Windows.

The message "error reading operating system" shows up because you do not have an operating sytem (Windows) installed.

If you have a FAT32 Boot diskette, it will help you delete all partitions on your hard drive ( by using the "fdisk" command, and then you will from the diskette reformat the drive and create a new partition (from the diskette, with the "fdisk" command again, and make it active; then put in the windows xp prof software disk and it will install and you will be able to reorganize your PC

1-did you format that new drive?...make the partitions on it
2-floppys in the a drive
3-let the system boot, leaving the winxp cd inside, and when it askes to press any key to boot from the cd, do not press any key, let the system boot without the cd, to contiue the instalation.
4-IF NONE OF THE ABOVE WORKS YOU HAVE BAD RAM OR BAD INSTALL CD
