when im waiting for the bus at downtown l.a. i always see these bugs they look like bees because they have stripes. They fly but just a short distance they stay close to the ground. They also burrow, they dig holes. I just think their weird and wanted to know what kinda freaking bug this is? Yeah thats how bored i am when im waiting for the bus.

Ugh it's NONE of those. It is really really similar to the Cicada Killer.

They don't sting - theres lots of people at the bus stop but they never sting - just like it says Cicada Killers don't sting.

They dig the same kind of hole.

BUT they are smaller and there will be like 30 sort of swarming but they are CONSTANTLY moving they look like they are on crack. They will go and dig for like 4 seconds - go and fly 2 feet - fly into a hole - come out - fly to another hole - dig - come out.

They are freaking crazy

Here is a very good website for identifying insects of many kinds. Photos of insects are plentiful and insects are grouped according to type. If you are still unable to identify the insect you have seen, there is a forum specifically set up to deal with questions pertaining to insects.

Good luck with your search for information.

Could be a cicada killer wasp or another burrowing wasp or bee. There is also a cuckoo bee, which burrows. You could try a great site called Whats that bug? and you will find pictures of these and many other weird insects.

They sound like to me that they are wood bees. If they kinda hover in the air and go into the ground they probably are. They look like bumble bees but bigger. They also do not sting like regular bees.
