As I've had a drink problem for quite a while I have come to the conclussion that I should stop, I currently drink about 5 cans of strong lager 9% a day and am wondering if this will have any adverse effects on my health if I go "cold turkey" and just stop.
Also does anyone have any ideas for what I can do to fill my time apart from sitting infront of my Pc all day?

Seek medical advice about the drinking as you may well experience some withdrawal effects which can be scary if your not sure what to expect. But I think you should go for it!I think the effects on your health from stopping will be temporary and of a nuisence than serious.The serious problems are to come if you don't stop.
Sleep disturbance ie not sleeping,vivid disturbing nightmares when you do sleep.Early morning waking ( a symptom of deppression btw).
Problems with motor control (the shakes)
Lack of concentration,poor attention span.
the physical stuff will pass quickly enough but the realy difficult thing to deal with are the emotional/psychological problems.If you are no longer blunting your feelings with drink you may find yourself somewhat overwhelmed by feelings of despair and hopelessness,prone to tearfulness and overwhelming anxiety.
You need to work on the problems that lead you to start drinking in the first place and the depression that you are undoubtably now suffering.(if you wern't befre reading all this may well push you over the edge)
But alcohol is a depressant and supresses production and release of seratonin which is vital for mental good health.
Drink lots of water at least 2 liters a day more if you can.Eat things with b vitamins in them (leafy green veg,whole foods,oily fish and marmite)
Take Zinc and magnesium suplements.
Take regular exercize a few brisk walks,a cycle ride,swim or take up a martial art Tai chi for example.
Exercize has a realy good effect on mood its official it helps to lift and stabilise (sounds like a Cross yer heart bra!)
Go to the library check out a good book and if the weather is good read it outside (sunshine and day light are good for your mood too).
Take up a musical instrument.
What did you do before the drink and PC took over your life?
Revisit old hobbies and interests
Get a pen pal
Getting a letter is a good boost!
When you feel stable enough volenteer for good works hospital visiting,helping out at a local school,charity shop,arts centre.
Good luck because you will need it its a difficult thing to do,but it can be done and I think you owe it to yourself to start living a real life not the poor existance you have now.xxx

This might be a question for you GP.

You ARE drinking way too much and should start to cut down ASAP.

It's up to you as to how you do this;

Have a beer free day; lose a can a day every day (4,3,2,1); cold turkey, etc.; drink lower alcohol beers as well

You have a dependancy issue that your GP will be able to help with.

And as for what to do; well - if you're at a loose end - how about:
volunteer work?
Take up a hobby;
go hill walking - join the rambles association?;
take up photography (Though this will involve a PC at some stage - but maybe in a more productive way);
do an evening course;
go visit family/friends;
Get an evening job (Bar work maybe if you sort your drinking out).

There are a number of things that you can do - but I suspect that you will need help and support from friends and family, Go ask for it.

Drinking has a major effect on your liver so you need to detox that. A herbalist will make up a prescription for you personally as there are often reasons (both physical and mental) why you drink. A good detox will include dandelion, milk thistle and my old friend chromium piccolate (it stops the cravings) Don't go cold turkey if you cant afford professional help then enlist a "buddy" who has gone through it before. Understand that the experience that you are having will have echo's of others experience but will never be the same. Even if you give up alcohol your body will never be free of it as the body actually produces it. (not in the quantities that you drink)
Stay positive and enjoy all that life has to offer.

Going cold turkey is not a good idea,as this can cause you to have fits,you need to go to your Dr as he will give you some medication to help,he may also offer other help which you may want to act on. But why are you just sitting at home for,are you depressed? there is a big wide world out there,get out and have some fun,join the gym that way you can get fit and make some new friends,just sitting at home is no good for anyone,it is not healthy,i wish you good luck with the drink

Why don't you try to get professional help?
People who are drinking a lot have problems, may be you think it's because you have too much time but the basic problem might be deeper.
I don't know where you are living but I think a therapy where you can talk about all your sorrows and sadness and anger.
There a more people with similiar problems and you could get help from the therapist and from the experiences of the others.

It's important to find out about. And at least if you are really an alcoholic you have to decide to live or die. if you want to live you must agree to life and you have to change it a bit.

Good luck.

Call Drinkline or Frank to be on the safe side. If you are addicted, suddenly withdrawing from drink can be dangerous.
Not knowing what to do with yourself is apparently one of the most difficult things about giving up an addiction so you are right to be thinking along those lines.
Google in volunteering and see what comes up. There are all sorts of interesting opportunities out there from mentoring to helping preserve wildlife; hopefully you'll find something.
Plan out your day, and get in touch with someone who can help you get through it, because drink won't want to let you go and will come up with all sorts of reasons for you to continue.
I have a brother-in-law with the same problem, and he has lost so much through drinking. Every birthday that comes round we think it will be his last.
Best of luck with this.

Duh, nerves produces particular bacterias that reason pimples, and all you have been doing is each and everything that calms your nerves. Now which you have gotten rid of undesirable behavior I recommend you replace them with solid ones. Drink water plenty trough the day. do not touch the pimples, except once you wash your face, which you do usually. There additionally are particular products for laundry complicated face, yet they're many times costly. Drink yogurt, maximum have the micro organism that counter those that are imparting you with issues. try being greater calm while you're a worried individual. try a rubdown (does not ought to be a expert one, merely ask a pal or a college, in case you think of they are going to do it), in keeping with risk spend it gradual relaxing in a bathtub.

well done to you, hope you make it.
You are not supposed to go cold turkey if you have been drinking a long time-think your liver could go into shock.
You can do lots of other things to fill in your time, what would you like to do? concentrate on whatever makes you happy. Exercise is a good time filler.
