Chiropractic helps with some types of condition and not others. A good and honest chiropractor would be able to tell you after the first session what kind of results you can expect within a certain number of sessions.
It is true that there are a lot of unqualified or inexperienced chiropractors. Each state has a different set of regulation for qualifying licensed chiropractors. To my amazement, some states have tougher rules for massage therapists than chiropractors.
The best thing to do is to get recommendations from people your in area. And ask questions at the end of the first session: "Would you able to improve my condition?" and "How long before we can achieve the improvement?" If the answer is that you have to keep coming forever, then I would be wary.
Good luck.

Been going to one since 1978. They have helped me a lot. There are good ones and bad ones, just like in any medical professor. There was a co-worker who had been to her doctor for back problems, he didn't help so she went to a Chiropractor. He checked her out and told her to go back to her doctor and have a specific test done. The result was undiagnosed kidney problems, one kidney was gone, the other was only functioning at a greatly diagnosed rate. So a chiropractor will discover problems, After all they have had the same medical training that a medical doctor has. The only difference is that they specialize in Chiropractic training where a medical doctor goes into a different specialty, like heart, gastrointestinal, etc.

I was a receptionist for three years at a chiropractors office and have seen many miracles. A new patient's recommended care period starts with three visits per week for three months, depending on your condition. After that it can go over to once a week until you go only once a month for maintenance. The maintenance plan is recommended to any patient no matter how well in shape you think your back is. I think it is a very good, safe way of taking care of your body. Espescially because there is no drugs involved. Every visit is a full examination of your spine, nerves system, muscles etc, and it is a good stress reliever and energizer. Chiropractic is really good for everything and anything. I would not go for three times a week for three months though. I also believe that it is highly addictive, and that your body wil get so used to the care and attention, that it can get fragile in the long run. But that is just what I think and actually also heard from some of the patients. But thats how things are in life I suppose.Too much of a bad thing is very bad, and too much of a good thing, well.......

I not only go on a regular basis but so does everyone in my family, including my children who play sports. My chiropractor is wonderful and helps all of us tremendously.

I have had chronic back pain for over 12 years and having been seeing a chiropractor since 1997. I was not willing to go but the pain became so bad I finally broke down and went. Once I was feeling better I decided to go once a month. My pelvis has a tendency to slip out of alignment and he puts it back in for me. It helps me immensely. I am not sure if everyone needs to go regularly but for me it works well. I do try really hard to watch my alignment but it is hard to change posture habits after all the years of bad posture.

I go to a chiropractor on a monthly basis, and I think it helps. You have to be careful, there are a lot of quacks out there. I'm not certain if I understand why it has worked for me (it may be placebo affect for all I know), but I'm not in nearly as much pain as I was before, and I'm happy with that.

Yes, I go when I need to -- about twice a year. I can usually take care of my own muscle aches; and my spine adjusts itself easily if I lay on a hard surface for ten or fifteen minutes. But, for those times when I can't quite get it to go back into place or am feeling like I just want somebody else to take care of it, I get fast, immediate relief from my chiropractor.

I used to go for back and neck problems. Even though I went regularly for many, many, many months the results never lasted.
I have been to several chiropractors over the years and they have different philosophys of care. Beware the ones who say chiropractic can cure everything.....run and find another if you wish to pursue chiropractic treatment. Good luck.

I used to go to a chiropractor after I fell while ice skating and messed up my back. It worked wonders on me; I loved going. I always felt fantastic after being adjusted. I need to find a new chiropractor because I have since moved, and I miss going!
