They keep saying that I can get free grant money but I have to give them a credit card, the number comes up as "Quebec Call" on my caller ID. And when the representative answer the phone they do not answer like a company would by introducing the company they represent or their name. They just say "HELLO!?" I know that this is a scam I told them stop calling my house and they still call..

I don't know if the "do not call list" works for companies outside the USA, but, if you're not on the list, get on it.

Keep track of each and every time they call. Get a cheap tape recorder for your phone, and record these calls. Once you have five or six, tell them that you're going to the police if they don't stop calling. If they continue to call, contact the police and tell them you're being harassed by this company. They may be able to do something.

Go to http://www.donotcall.gov and get on the national "do not call registry."

Once you are on the list, wait 31 days and the calls should have ceased.

If they have not, go to this link and file a formal complaint (very easy):

https://www.donotcall.gov/Complain/ComplainCheck.aspx

Company's violating the national do not call list can be subject to fines in excess of $1,000 per incident. It is free for companies to check their phone numbers with the national do not call database.

It doesn't matter what country they are calling through either. If the US government cannot stop the individual from placing the call, it can assess fines to the phone company that is permitting the call to enter the country through its interchange and they will place the heat on the appropriate people in Canada.

I don't get any phone calls from telemarketers anymore. It is pretty cool.

Best bet.... contact a local Consumer Practices Attorney. If this "company" is a collector, then there is a good chance that they are violating the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). Many consumer attorneys will consult with you for free, and some even will represent you for little to no money, as you would wina and they would receive a percentage of your settlement.

Answer the phone as if you were a business they want an individual, not a business. For example, say "Thank you for calling Ven-Tech, how may I direct your call?" Or "Thank you for choosing dildos-r-us, may I have your order?" If that doesn't work, buy a whistle and everytime they call, blow it as hard as you can into the phone. If that doesn't work, demand their name, address, phone and say that you are going to report them to the FCC. If that doesn't work, play like you are interested and give them a fake number and then they will think they got you and when they find out it is fake, they won't call back.

The next time they call, be polite and ask the caller to speak with a supervisor. I am sure they will not have one, but play along. Then tell them of the trouble you are having with them calling and you not being interested in any type of grant, loan, goat, boat or anything else they wish to offer you and to please take you off their scam list,

call the phone company first of all and see if they can figure out who it is. threaten legal action for harassment. other than that, i don't know. do they give a name at all for the company?

or, you could have some fun. when they call, anser the phone with "is bob there?" if they ask for a specific person tell them to hold on, you'll go get them. then leave them for a few minutes, go back to the phone and say, "who were you holding for?" when they tell you say, "oh, okay, hold on a second." repeat as many times as you like.

Do not give them any information, tell them you have to leave for a bit, but will call them right back if they give you their company name and phone number. Then report them to the attorney general in your state.

The next time you get a call from them, ask what they're wearing, what they're having for dinner, tons of personal questions......then tell them to hold on a moment and walk away from your phone for at least 20 minutes....then come back and ask them to hold again....they'll get the message.
