I wouldn't say it is selfish but it is rude.He does not seem to be showing any concern for you.Perhaps you could tell
him that you will make sure the lights are off when you are finished with what you are doing.Explain to him that you left your job to look after him and you still have your own life and how you dont think it is fair what he is doing.

It sounds easy enough to work out but sometimes people
tend to just think of themselves. That is what is selfish.I am sure you love him very much and probably want to avoid having any type of confrontation with him.Tell him nicely and whatever you do try and avoid an argument as that would only make matters worse.

If he insists and he is unwilling to compromise maybe you can buy one of those lamps that operate on battery power. That way at least you are not left in the dark.I'm so sorry I hope he listens to your concerns.Good Luck!

Yes it seems selfish. Maybe he has some sort of sensitivity to light though. You could ask him not to do that anymore, or get a little book light at a bookstore, one that clips onto the book so that it will not bother him. Or just tell him to look after himself from now on.

It depends on if its his house or yours. If its his house, and hes elderly......give him his way and get a book light.

If its your house, then Id tell him, if you act like this, then I cant be the one to take care of you.
