There has been an increasing trend towards sensationalized media or tabloid news....I think unlike other parts of the world, the news programs have a difficult time grabbing the attention of the average joe/jane, who would rather watch "american idol" so, the news has been reduced to ridiculous sound bytes....

Also, the general population is to a larger extent politically unaware both of local and global issues...people don't take the time to read up on various sides/issues surrounding a debate, so...the news has to be boiled down to an easily digestable format for the average consumer.....in the end, the goal becomes one of entertainment rather than informing the viewer.....

I don't care how dry the BBC news format might be, it at least appears to be impartial & without political bias and covers a wide range of topical issues from around the world ..................

Sadly America is so insulated from world news that they are seen as ignorant!

People in Europe, the Middle and Far east are far better informed. Pick up one of their papers, turn on the TV or radio and all the information is there.

Pick up a paper, turn on the TV or radio in America and you could be forgiven for believing it is the only country on earth!!

Is that an accident - No!!!

The politicians do not want you to know what is really happening in the world!!

I think we Americans are inundated with news, and I think once somebody finds a news source they like, they stick with it, reliable or not. There are soooooooo many choices now to get news from, most people either don't have or won't take the time to investigate what they're reading or hearing. It's good that so many options are available, but having that many options also leads to a lot of bad information getting mixed in with the truth.

Yes, the news is now a puppet show created by corporate America and theie CEO minions.

Watch 'Weapons of Mass Deception' and you too will see how bad it was on the run-up to Iraq.

Yes. The american news is more like an entertainment magazine. As far as the major networks, I don't recommend their news programs. I watch the BBC news, it accually has real news.

I am British married to a US citizen we live in the UK. My husband says that the news in the US is censored much more than it is here in the UK. Things we show on our news broadcasts would NEVER be allowed to be screened in the US. So yes your news is unreliable and heavily censored...

The news is unreliable because the media has to create hysteria in order to get their ratings up so they can charge more for their ad spots. In the rush to be the first to report events and not be the one not reporting them, bad information is often given.
