Do you have a fever with the sore throat? If so, the fever is a response to the bacteria in the throat. Raising your body temperature will kill the bacteria, that's why your body produces a fever.

Drink lots of hot liquids. Take a steaming hot bath. Then wrap neck in scarf and jump immediately into bed. Turn up the heat and force your body to sweat it out for the whole night. In the morning, you should feel much better. This always works for me, especially when I catch it early.

Motrin or Advil for pain relief. Gargle with warm salt water (1 tablespoon of salt to 1 cup of VERY warm tap water.) Chloraseptic spray works well too.

If you have any fever, see the doctor.
