There is no such thing. The only way to get rid of it IS to dig it up. As suggested above, try cutting off as much of the top as you can. Then it will be easier to sink the shovel in the middle and dig it out in pieces. The plant is very drought tolerant with fleshy roots that retain moisture so it will be heavy. I have done it myself. It's not easy.
Good luck :-)

You must live in the tropics or sub-tropics. You can try something like Round-Up to kill the plant. If you do, you will have to wait to replant the area.

Would it be possible to remove some of the smaller plants and give them to friends. Or, you might even take them to the local flea market and sell them. I bought some similar plants just last Saturday at our local flea market.

Bird of Paradise is such a popular bloom with florists. Have you tried selling the blooms? That might make the plant more desirable to you.

Bird of Paradise has a clumping nature .. flowering only once off each segment
/ If I were you I'd be inclined to look up a few builder/landscapers give them a ring offering it for free as often people want " instant" gardens failing that advertise in your local paper "for Free" you remove! GOOD LUCK!

If it's that large I'd cut it off as close to the ground as I could with a chain saw and hope that it doesn't grow back from the roots.
