I use both at work. I sell rolls of paper for example an order may be for 44 1/8" and I have to use a formula to determine the weight of the roll so I have to convert 44 1/8 to a decimal, it would be 44.125". I don't know if this helps.

OMG another fractions question.
FRACTIONS
Bring in measuring cups. 1/4 cup, 1/3 cup, etc.
Bring in a McDonalds Quarter Pounder.
DECIMALS
Bring in some packaged food; it will say what decimal percentage of nutritional items is in it. I am looking at a can of Dr. Pepper and it has 2% of the daily value of sodium in it.
Bring in an ad for mortgages from the newpaper it will have the interest rate expressed as a percentage.
