I personally think the television. Now with news stations on the internet allowing users to watch video, and the iPod and other devices allowing people to download video, movies, and music videos. I think it would only be a matter of time before television literraly becomes history. I used to run home to watch the news, and my favorite show 24. Now I can watch it on the internet and download the episode to my computer and watch it when ever I get the chance. I rarely use the television anymore, except when I want to watch specials like 20/20 or dateline NBC. (and even that you can download on the internet as well) which brings me back to my question What technological item do you think is going to become obsolete in the not to far distant future?

the electrical supply systems in our homes. instead of receptacles for appliances (microwaves, computers, dishwashers, etc.) they will have receivers built in every thing. one central transmitter instead of a breaker box, or panel if you will. no more wires inside your walls. kind of like remote controle signals to your t.v. or a model plane. no more cords to plug in! if you think about it, 50 years ago cell phones and wireless internet were something off an old star trek episode.

TV will still be around because kids will want to watch shows, play video games, and families will want to watch movies together. Star Wars just isn't the same on a 20 inch screen as it is on a home theater. Plus not everybody has a computer.

3.5" floppy disks and dial-up modems are falling by the wayside, there are already much better alternatives out there. Pay phones are another thing that will be pretty much gone soon, too. I imagine music stores and Blockbuster video stores will be gone soon too. Rock 'n Roll mega stars will fade away as music becomes unprofitable. There will still be musicians, but they won't make their money selling CD's, they'll make money touring and selling tickets to concerts.

The CD player for both Home and Automobile.....just like the cassette player of the late 80s-90s......with the advancement in music portability and the adaptation of music on Internet ,i-pods,etc....it will be less costly to mass produce other forms of entertainment devices. I dint think TV or Big screens will ever go away...its too big a business and the quality of new Plasma,LCD, HD and the rest are too great to settle for anything less? The flat screens of laptops are great but the size and comfort of your own home theater system is truly cool!!
