Just say "Hey how's it goin?" and ask them about a current event or something. Ask them about where they live (dorms, etc.) and what they like to do for fun on the weekends.

Just be yourself, conversations come easy if you do not pretend you are something that you're not. If you really wish to become friends with them, show them what you really are made of. They'll easily find out the great person inside you even if you do not talk all the time. Conversation topics are easy to think about when you and your friends share some things in commmon. Find out what they like, and tell them what you like too, this way it will be easy to really know each other.

Ask about their other classes, interests, tv shows they watch, where they live, how long they've lived in this state, etc. Just anything. small talk, whatever you talk about with your other friends. You can wave hi in the halls and stuff, but don't necessarily have to stop them everytime. Ask how their doing if you get a minute, what they thought about last night's homework if you have classes together, etc. Be confident and be yourself

Just be yourself. Read the news so you have something intelligent to talk about and don't sound like an idiot. You could start out with hey how's it going? Then just take it from there. Try to listen more than you talk. That is a highly desired trait in a friend.

Try to stay in touch with current events in school/community so you'll what the other person is talking about. Just relax. after a whole day in school saomething's bound to pop up that you can talk about. Just don't push, don't lie usually these conversations fflow quite easily. Good luck.

You should definitely acknowledge the person. Talk about the class or anything of interest to both of you. If the person participates in the conversation with you....just flow with it.
Be a friend.

Look, if you want to talk to that person, then you will find something to say. Otherwise, you don't have to talk to that person.
