This is a good thing. You should never let them hold their own bottle becase if they are allowed to hold it then they think it belongs to them and is much harder to break them of taking a bottle when it is time to give it up.Your baby sounds fine and not behind at all. He also likes the fact that if you have to hold the bottle then you must hold him too!!! Babies like to be cuddled and held. My son did the same thing and I was able to take his bottle away from him with no problem by the age of one. It was great not to have it around anymore.Good Luck! Same thing goes for the pacifer!

My 9 1/2 month old crawls, pulls up on things, cruises along walls and furniture and is learning to stand unsupported. She can easily track down and insert a pacifier no problem, but she won't hold a bottle or cup either. (She's still mostly breastfed though so she hasn't had much exposure to bottles.)
Are/were you breastfeeding? I'm sure that would make a big difference for the bottle thing.
Also, does he really LIKE a pacifier? If not then maybe he just doesn't care when it falls out.

Yes, you're trippin'!!
First, all babies are different. Remember that.
My baby is 11 1/2 months old. He didn't crawl good until he was 9 1/2 month and is just now walking. He didn't hold his bottle until he was about 9-10 months old.
I think the Playtex Vent-aire bottles are easy to hold. Those are the ones that helped my son learn to hold.
Whenever you go for the well child visits they usually are watching and asking to see what the baby is doing. Also, if your baby was early that would have an effect on it. But it sounds to me like he is just fine.
Hope this makes you feel better...

I really wouldn't worry about it! My son is also 7 months old and he doesnt crawl but does hold his own bottle. Every baby is going to develop at their own rate. I would worry if he didnt know his mommy and daddy and couldnt grab his toys and all that. Have you tried giving him small bottles...like the ones that only hold 5 oz. those are the only ones that my son can hold. The bigger ones might just be too heavy or too big

My 14 mo. old preemie still doesn't hold her own bottle. Her pediatrician feels that she may not as she's used to someone doing it for her all the time. She, too, doesn't take to a sippie cup. My daughter is one of those kids you just can't rush. She will do it in her own time. She didn't sit unassisted until 10 months, crawled at 11 months, and is just now starting to pull herself up. She's about the 10 month level for her adjusted age and is doing everything a 10 month old should be doing.

she does not crawl
knows her name
knows mommy and daddy
grabs for stuff (fast? not really)
just now holding bottle, but can work a mean pacifer!!
just NOW standing
will clap when you say pat-a-cake
My baby is a really laid back baby, each one is different...he's doing fine!!
got my baby to hold her own bottle my switching to the drop-ins the bottle doesn't have to be held at a certain angle...and not too much or it will be too heavy

Both of my boys never held their own bottle. I was really surprised that they took to a sippy cup at the age of 1. When babies start getting more active we as parents get less "cuddle" time. I actually enjoy feeding my baby now more than ever. Your baby sounds perfect.

My little boy was the same way. Do not worry about it. I bet if he had to hold it he could. Mine did not do it until like 8 months. Do not rush him. He likes depending on you to feed him. He does not sound to be behind. Give it time. Not a big deal.

Don't stress. He is developing at his own rate. Holding a bottle takes a lot of coordination, and your child is still very young.

I wouldn't worry about it. He probably just likes the quality time with whoever holds his bottle. Enjoy it, they get independent way too fast!
