I am really curious why someone would want to do this to their children. Is this for you or your child? You do realize that only 2 things can happen. IF she/he is chosen as "the best" they get a big head and nobody can come close to them OR if she/he loses they lose all respect for themselves and feel that they are not worthy. Please reconsider this. If you are going to do it anyhow, listen to your child notice changes in them.

People are stupid. Why do they start questioning you before they know whether your child wants to model already? It makes me angry people judging other people without gathering facts.
Here my son wants to act. He likes TV commercials and he memorizes everything he sees on TV.
Anyways John Robert Powers is a great modeling school. Now they are not a modeling agency but you get to audition twice a month every month. You have sign up for at least one class and they teach children and adults how to get a contract. You know what to say during auditions and stuff. Once you become a student your membership is lifetime, meaning you can take your kids to audition the rest of his life. They bring very well know casting directors and modeling agencies.
My son went there this past summer. It helped his self-confidence. He totally changed. And had lots of fun. One thing though you have to be recruited and they won't accept a child unless the child himself/herself wants to do it.
Good Luck!

Go to the SAG website for New York:
http://www.sag.org/sagWebApp/application?origin=branchmap.jsp&event=bea.portal.framework.internal.refresh&pageid=Branches®ionSelected=true&branch_view=NY
They should have a listing of SAG affiliated agencies in the NY area. Those are usually the most reputable agencies.
