New laws are coming into place that if a child is under 4' 6" tall, then they have to use a booster seat in the car.
What about adults of short stature (dwarves)? If they are under 4'5" will they have to use a booster seat?
What about if they use a taxi?

It's amassing how many people have asked me this question today so when I saw it on here I had to do some research. Before I continue I'm not an expert on Car seats or short people so why I keep getting asked this I don't know, maybe I have the air of a booster seat boffin!

Anyway, as is my understanding of the law People over the age of 14 and or weigh more than 36kg are exempt from the new laws. I think it has to do with bone structure and positioning of the Seat belt. I cant find any mention that short people would have to use a seat restraint of any kind other than an ordinary seat belt. As far as taxis are concerned they appear to be exempt from the new regulations although I believe a seat belt should still be worn by children.

'WHAT', one of your respondents, makes a very good point about short adults, particularly females who can't see over the steering wheel. Their eyes must hit the road about fifty feet in front of the vehicle, this can not be safe, it throws their perspective out and is dangerous for anyone/thing within that distance, including parking. I was once hit whilst parked by a very short woman who was doing a three point turn, and had all the time in the world to carry out the manoeuvre. I was sat in my car at the time, and when she got out of her car after hitting me, I realised why it had happened. She couldn't see anything near to her car. So come on you bossy nannies, what about that?

Personally I think they should. I knew someone who used to drive who couldn't see over the steering wheel. But no, it is under 12, and a weight limit too. Should imagine the laws apply whatever the vehicle, after all shouldn't your child's safety be of paramount importance to you?

I should imagine yes..... If you dont meet the height criteria..
But I would recommend Halfords or somewhere similar who have trained staff to answer any of your questions, and also check what model of seat is most suitable for your car
