What about the hallways of malls, I've seen them there, not the cheapest futons, but not a bad price and fairly good quality.

I guess it depends on where you're at. But try craigslist.com I've found some good things on there. Also around this time of the year Target and Walmart have good sales on futons. I found one last year for $100 dollars and it's full size, comfortable and is good quality. It hasnt broken yet. lol Good luck!
