I am in my mid 20's. There are these people that I knew when i was age 12-14(they are not related to me at all). I have never cared what people thought of me ever, until about two years ago when i saw these people again after 10 years. I told them how i was doing and what was going on in my life. since i saw these people i have been wondering, what do they think of me.
They told me that "I was doing better than they thought i would be doing". What kind of back handed statement is that!
Why do I care what these people think?
Can you guys give me your opinion?
Thanks

Lisa, becuase they made that one statement...it is eating at you. That you already know of course. Now, you need to remeber that it has been a long time since you have seen them, you are happy with your life and you have moved on in all aspects of your life. So, think about that and forget about what they think. If you were happy before, there should be no reason why your not happy again....now.

I think it's only human to care what people think about us. It's natural to find acceptance in other people. I think I too would be shocked upon hearing what those people only because I would feel that they had a negative opinion of me before. But then again, their comment may have meant something like they're impressed with things your doing at your age. It's hard to say. However, we have to live life knowing that someone will always have something to say. No matter how much I've accomplished so far, there's always someone who thinks I could be doing something else or doing something better. That's life and I have to keep on living! If I always worried about what people thought then I know I wouldn't of made it to this point of my life. I say keep doing what you're doing and don't worry about those people :)

Who cares what they care ' Your opinion of you is what matters why do you think they said that is because most people speak before they think what to say then try to behave in a way as though it is normal to effectively hurt others feelings without so much as an i'm sorry or I didn;t mean to say that, Or I misspoke been there .But learned that an opinion of one is not the whole world.

These people sound jealous, bitter, and very snide. I think its just human nature that we care about what others think. Its important to work on not being that way though. Be happy in yourself, and forget what these people think. Tell yourself you could care less about their opinion of you and move on with your life. Don't waste one more second of your time or energy on people who do not matter.

You look to others for approval fo your life.
This is not healthy.

It dictates who you date what you drive and how you dress.

You are the only indivdiual you should care about.
What other people think, changes with the masses, once you know this you can start to be who you are and care less what the next person thinks.

good luck

You shouldn't give a rat's azz what those people think. No one has to live your life but you. Simply ignore stupid remarks by azzhole people. They should've complimented you for doing well, but obviously they are so miserable that they had to try to make you miserable as well.

I guess they assumed you'd be lying face down in the gutter, a bottle of Thunderbird in your hand.

Forget them, as they really don;t matter in your current life.
