it sounds as if the negative wire coming from the back of your stereo is wired into a light wire.
i.e. when your lights are off it is a negative and when you turn your lights on it becomes live which in turn is not giving a negative connection to your stereo.
solution is to disconnect the negative wire from your stereo and reconnect it to somewhere that is negative(metal from body will do).

If it's an aftermarket radio then you probably have the power lead hooked up to the lamp wire or dimmer wire on the factory harness. You will need to find a different power source for it.

he is right i am willing to bet you have an aftermarket deck(not factory) and whoever put it in hooked the illumination wire up to the accessory wire and when you turn on the lights it loses power,you will need to have a professional rewire it for you

The radio needs new positive ,ground and switched wires ran to it.
