since there is essentialy nothing for it to expand into, why did it not just go as far as it could instintaniously? (even if this did mean an eventual implosion or whatever!)

We must take into account that the Universe mentions only recent
findings. It is expanding because there is nothing to stop it for the
time being. Also recent research shows that about 50% of the
Universe is made up black holes and there are explosions and explosions going on all the time. It becomes a tug-of-war which
matter will swallow the other. As black holes get larger their gravity
increases and has a farther reach. Most dark matter is made
up of small particles which will increase the size of the larger mass
that swallowed it, and this will go on until it is so large that it‘s force
of gravity at the centre will explode into a new solar system, a new
galaxy all of which has to find a natural direction to expand and this
should be the nearest large black hole or the pull of the nearest
galaxy. Like our own, our nearest neighbour is Andromeda and
one is drawing the other closer to finally end up as one. Our system has more gravitational force than Andromeda, so we
should swallow them. And what about our own solar system, where
the sun is burning hydrogen and is losing mass in doing so. As
it loses mass it also loses gravity which allows the gas to expand
to the extent that the flames will reach out over all our planets
and, finally when burnt out, the sun will collapse into a small black
hole and bring all our planets along with it. We then will be a small
black hole awaiting, attracting more mass until our black sun will
explode once again and we are off to a new and unknown start.
Estimates of the size of our Universe had been estimated at 350
billion light years.
A few weeks ago, scientists found that previous estimates are now more like 380 billion! So it is an endless cycle that only tends to get
larger unless all matter collapses into one, but there again all the
Universe of 380billion light years will be so dense at the centre
that it will collapse under its own weight, and the force of its gravity
at the centre will no longer be able to keep the surface matter of
a much lesser density to explode, and everything will start all
over again!

"Expanding" is a bit misleading, because that suggests the universe is "growing" into "something" (i.e., displacing something else). Doesn't really work that way. Concepts like "everything" and "nothing" are still within the confines of the universe. By far the best vacuum (the very definition of "nothing") is deep space, so how can "nothing" be expanding into "something"?

The idea of the universe expanding like the outside of a balloon is great to illustrate the concept, but the analogy has its flaws. You can think of it as everything you could possibly imagine - stars, galaxies, space, emptiness, nothing - anything you could possibly imagine - is on the inner surface of an expanding balloon. There is no way to understand what is on the other side of the balloon, because by definition you cannot imagine or describe it. Since by definition every concept you could ever hold was created within the universe (hence on the inner surface of the balloon) it is not possible to talk about what the outer surface of the balloon is expanding into, even using words like "Empty" or "Nothing".

It's confusing, but these are heady concepts. Perhaps a better question is how can the universe be expanding while the Earth continues to suck?

Because nothing can travels faster than light so the speed is already set. There are two theories about why universe expands. The one is the Big Bang. The other one is that the universe is came out from nothing just like that by chance but without a start. Is limited but without a start or end. Just like the surface of a sphere. Read some Brian Greene, The Delicate Universe, is amazing book!

all of it is going back to the great bang concept. right here is an occasion that might actually assist you, lets say you're baking raisin bread with The raisins being the galaxies and the bread being the empty areas of the universe. once you start to bake it - the bread rises and the raisin separate and escalate. Its nevertheless a question that scientist try to come to a decision yet i'm hoping this could help you for now.

REWARDs. The answer given that the population of peoples is increasing. It is my scripture filled expression of undeniable truth that everyone shall be rewarded according to their abilities to withstand the difficulties of this life and overcome trials through obedience to a higher authority over their lives. As we are continuely introducing new lives to the equation it is only right and good that we as humans "know ye not that we shall judge angels" should be rewarded with the ultimate expression of the very GOD we serve. That being, to create planets and populate them as we all point every prayer and honor to the original creator and friend , WHO IS And Was And Shall Be as the only one who can restore our minds into all loving kindness as directed by His Father, the Key to Eternity in perfect consideration of written scripture. Considering the attitude of Children..."For such are the Kingdom of God." Therefore the universe is expanding to include the full expression of the love of the Father for his creation By the spoken Word, and through a Holy(set apart) Spirit of reconciliation. YES?

because it cant get smaller without collapsing on itself.
but if gets bigger it creating more area for more things to exist
and it will never really go as far as it can as this would be imposible because the universe doesn't end.dont try to imagine the entire universe all youll get is a massive headache because the human mind cannot hold that kind of knowledge

There is a theory that the universe is do-nut shaped, and that the universe is expending in a curved shape. I could wi=rite a library trying to explain. But I don't have time.
Personally I like to think that God just wanted it that way...

Speed of light limits the rate of expansion, our ideas about space are stuck in a 3 dimensional understanding of space, with a 4 dimensional model as you add time you add space, hence the idea space could be infinite, but you are into the boundries of theoretical physics here so there is no definitive answer, as I understand it

One possible factor is that gravity was very strong much earlier in time (because everything was nearer in the 'cosmic soup' and early universe), and that would have stopped a more rapid expansion.

Nowhere else to go. Gravity of the Dark Matter will bring it back in though, then the Universe will contract to ''Singularity'' then go bang again.
