into a school (online or in person)? Those in the business - what do you recommend? I know it all comes down to portfolio anyway, but if you have ideas and want to crank them out, what would you recommend for a novice? I've downloaded the educational MAYA program from apple as a start.

My company hires dozens of kids graduating from SCAD that majored in computer graphics, but we don't even interview the ones that apply that don't have a formal education. I'd highly recommend that you look into Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD).

3ds max is the BEST program for animation
it costs about $3500
you can get a 30 day free trail on autodesk.com
there are also demos of what this program can do.

a clas to learn this program costs about $1500 and is usually an 8 hour a day for 3 days class.

get animation studio i'm not sure what the latest edition is but it's made by corel
