I once read an article that I can not remeber the details of or where I read it about making soaps for gifts out of store bought soap. I do remember that fragrance oil and coloring was added and they were put in different shaped molds.

Soap makers call that "rebatching." You can do a web search and find many different ways of doing it. Here's a page from one of my favorite soaping sites and another page that looks useful:

Forget the molds. Take the scraps and soak them in a container of water until they are mushy, and mold them, by hand, into a ball. Let it dry for a couple of days. Viola!

Heta in a pot over your stove on low heat and then cut shavings from the old soap for style and then let is cool.

you can put all the soap pieces in the foot of an old panty hose and tie a knot in it.
