I am thinking of leaving my job. I don't like the people I work with
we were bought out by another company and things are not
looking very good. This sounds stupid but I don't want people to think I'm leaving because I'm scared about what will happen with
this buyout. I have been thinking about leaving for a few months. We found out yesterday about the buyout. I've only have been less than a year.

If you are thinking and have been , then start thinking about looking for a new job then. But I suggest you wait to quit until you have a new job, that way you know your financial situation wouldn't be hurt, and that will be your reason for leaving IF they do wonder at your job. That way also you can leave in the right way, with giving your two weeks, other jobs do take that inconsideration when hiring you know.
& hey who cares what others are going to be thinking, you wont be working there to hear them anyways.
Seriously though, do consider finding a new job prior to leaving.
Best Luck to you!

So, stop worring about what the people you are leaving may think about the reason.

You will be leaving! You won't have to see them anymore! And you don't like them anyway!

Or, stay. Find out what the buyout means to you. The WORSE thing that can happen is that you get laid off. So what! You were thinking of leaving anyway. Plus you get the advantages of a few more paychecks, AND the possibility of collecting unemployment benefits. There may also be some form of severence package offered to people who face layoffs.

In any case, dont quit until you know you have job possibilites lined up.

This happened to me at the beginning of 2005. We were bought out by a bigger company and once we were moved to their main office, working there was a drag. Those of us that were from the old company were constantly being watched, everything we said was heard by someone, and everything they did was better (only it really wasn't). I found a better job and quit very quickly. Don't worry about what people will think, just find another job and get out of there. You've got to be somewhat happy at your job. And no matter what anyone says, the buyout will change things.

If you want to leave a job what other people think of the reason shouldn't really matter as long as you believe it is a valid and justified reason. One rule of thumb though, it is ALWAYS easier to find a job when you have one than it is to leave a job and then try to find a new one. My advice would be to job hunt while you're still working for this company and don't leave until you've found a new job that you will be happy with, pays at least as well and offers equal or better benifits.

If you are that unhappy, I would go on and turn in 2 week notice. If something is said, just explain the reason you ar leaving is not because of the buyout but that you want to explore other opportunities.

It doesn't matter why you're leaving. Don't let it bother you what other people think. They won't care anyway. Infact, if things are going downhill most people will feel the same way as you anyway. You sound quite young - I'm not prying, but if you are then you should know that the world of work involves doing what you want not worrying about what others think of your choices. Think of it this way, how many work colleagues do you think will care what you think aboout their job choice? Not many.

I went through what was called a merger between two competitors. It was actually the larger absorbing the smaller. I was with the smaller company. Instead of five in our group for one city, now there were ten of us. We didn't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out which five were going to be let go. Two of us resigned, the other three were let go one month later.
If your not happy (who cares whether you like the co-workers), better find another job and move on.

Look for a new job but stay with that one till you get a new one. Don't let your boss know that you plan on leaving because you might get replaced before you find a new job. So for your sake, don't tell anybody else that you plan on leaving, look for a better job, get the better job, then give two weeks notice to old company.

Who cares what other people think? You don't owe anyone an explanation. You can just say you see it as a good chance to "explore other opportunities." Do what's right for you. If you want out, now may be the best time. You just have to ask yourself, "What do I have to lose?" Maybe the answer is "not much."
