6 feet.

The railroad right of way is generally 50 feet but can and does vary as the land was acquired in many ways. Where eminent domain was applied it is usually 50 feet. That means if the rails are six feet apart the remainder is 42 feet, so about twenty feet from the edge of the ties.
I own 40 acres that has a railway right of way through it and the above measurements seem to be correct.

I don't know what they actually own- I believe that varies by rail system! But I can tell you for sure if you do anything within 45 feet of the rail they'll hang you in public!!!!

I am sure it varies depending on where your at or what they needed to have as there Right of Way.

If you own property along the RR you can check your Deed to see and if it doesn't say go to the courthouse the property is in and the recorder should be able to help you answer this question...

It varies. I have seen some RR Rights-of-Way (ROW) that are 100' wide and some that are 50' wide.
