A good thing to have is one of those pocket recorders, that way if you miss something in class or if you have a fast talker, you can go back and listen to it later. Also, I find it easier to write and highlight in my books provided that you are planning on keeping them. Another trick my college coach taught me is don't read word for word in your books...college books aren't meant to be read that way. Read the beginning skim through the middle and read the summaries in the end. I go through and highlight what looks important while I'm doing that. Best of luck to you!

Review your notes often...take about 10 or 20 mins for each class and go over your notes each night. If you keep reviewing the info you won't have to cram before a big test, just review. Check your textbooks and see if they offer a webpage online. Most books have excellent notes and outlines that you can access online and it cuts out a lot of time if you can just go on there and print them out rather than finding the info on your own. Try to join study groups or find someone else with the same major taking some of the same classes...if you have any questions you can ask each other. Good luck :)

I'm starting 9th grade this year but i have a little brother going into 6th grade. I took him shopping last week because my mom would have bought him like sweater vests and stuff loll. But I bought him a lot of flannel shirts and jeans and sneakers mostly, when or if you wear a flannel wear like a white tee under it and leave it open, um, we got some sweat shirts too, we shopped at pac sun mostly and i thought he'd look hot if i were 12 and not related to him, almost anything you buy at pac sun would be cool :) or stuff that's like loose, but tight jeans are in right now for skaters so you could get some of those And volcom shoes are cool but kinda pricey so i'd try to find a place like pac sun that sells that kinda stuff actually walmart is pretty good for stuff like that :D hope i helped and good luck with middle school!!! AND REMEMBER TO BE YOURSELF!!! Otherwise you'll be playing a part the next three years, and trust me - you dont want to have to do that

Take as many notes as you can, and try to tape record lectures if possible so that you can get any info you may miss. Little portable tape recorders are pretty cheap at like Circuit City or Radio Shack or somewhere like that.

Study hard, and focus on school. Stay focused. And don't skip class. Try to get into a study group if you can, then you all can help eachother study.

Best of luck!

How people study greatly differes due to each individuals learning style. Try taking a learning styles inventory online. Most are offered for free.

Here are a few that I had to use for the exact same purpose.

See how you learn, so that you can gear your study techniques towards that. Once you figure out how you learn, it will help you retain and process the information better. Find a study group, and share your information, as each of you may process differently and may have understood the material differently. Hope all goes well, college is a fun experience!

I guess my BIGGEST piece of advice is: don't let yourself get behind even a little. If you get behind a little it makes life SO MUCH HARDER. Catching up in college is much more difficult than in high school. I learned that the hard way my freshman year and never let it happen again. Good luck and try to have some fun while you're at it. Study hard and make the most of these years. You'll never get them back. I wish I had taken mine more seriously. I did well and graduated, but I look back now and realize how much MORE I could have accomplished if I had applied myself more rather than socialized. You'll have the rest of your life to socialize. Make the most of your college years.

look, just learn how to write fast. make sure to write everything the teacher writes on the board, or something he/she says is "important." As you write the information, it helps you retain that information so you won't need to do as much studying.

I got away without buying books for most classes during college and took EXTENSIVE notes in class. This way I had most information and was able to do well on the tests.

Taking Notes and Paying 100% attention in class is the most important thing. Don't procrastinate and give yourself time to do homework and papers.

Organize your time like crazy! Keep a day planner with you at all times- write down all homework assignments on the day they're due, write down events you want to go to, write down any activities you have planned, etc. Then, prioritize your time. Allot yourself enough time to get your homework done so you can go to the football game later that night. It's all about taking responsibility, time management, and getting everything done on time!

the best decision you could ever make is to not have a social life in college... you can't study when you have social obligations. its a simple fact.
