Am thinking of getting my first tattoo .. likely my daughter's name on either my arm or chest (near heart). Is that fairly common or strange? Trying to decide ..

My daughter is almost four months old at this point.

Thought is to get "BROOKE LYNNE" in same font (block) and style (arched) as your typical "BROOKLYN" t-shirt with her birth date below the arch.

Tattoos are permanent damage to your skin. Something you have to live with for the rest of your life. Be really sure you can deal with that.

Have you thought about just your daughter's initials? What happens when there are more children added to the family.

My brother has his son's initials on his bicep. His son died at the age of 19 in a car wreck. It was a way to memorialize him.

Very Common! And besides, this tattoo isn't for anyone else besided you and your daughter. My advice, after deciding to do it, really research the artist, before just walking into any tattoo shop. Beause this tattoo is so meaningful you want quality work, that your proud of!

Normal, normal, normal. I'm from the south, Georgia and I know a lot of people's with all of their children's names on them. I even know one guy who has a tree on his back, and all 12-13 of his children's name in graded in the tree. Go right ahead. My sister has her son's name on her arm. My fiance is going to get our 2 daughters on his back soon. Body art means something and expresses who you are. You are expressing the love for your child and nothing is wrong with that. This is fairly common all around, not just the south. Go right ahead. You shouldn't care what people think anyway. This is your child not theirs.

Lots of guys get tattoos with their kids names. Guy I used to work with had a tattoo on his arm with the names of all five of his sons, whose names all began with T. I like the idea of getting your daughter's name over your heart.

It doesn't matter, if it makes you happy! But just so you know you're not the only one, I have a tattoo on my right shoulder which is two hearts with each of my sons' names inscribed in them. I have had many people comment on it, and I absolutely love it.... and so do they! Have fun picking out your design and be brave :)

That is normal some people put their childs picture on their chest or arm. That is a good tat though becasue she will always be your daughter no matter what. So if you really want it go for it.

That's normal. I know one of my friend has a tattoo of his son's name AND his foot print(s) on him as a tattoo which is very sweet. This is going to be a tattoo dedicated to your daughter, go for it!
