My soon to be ex thinks that all we have to do is wait another 8 months (2 yr period) and the courts will recongnize the divorce, and finalize it. He wants to get re married next year. I want this all over with but is that how it goes. I don't want to keep putting money out if I'm not going to have anything to do with the timeframe. I want this over with last year. If you know what I mean.

Wow, my divorce was over in 90 days. Of course it was uncontested.

Sounds like you guys are really battling it out.

I don't think so. I believe you both have to sign the divorce papers unless there was an abandonment issue involve. Otherwise no signatures no divorce. If you sign, you can be divorce within 90 days or less.

Papers must be signed by both parties and filed with the court. Call the court to see if it's final. If not, call a family law attorney and ask a couple of simple questions to figure it out. Won't take much effort.

In the state I live in, my divorce was final in 60 days after filing. No where on the papers was his or mine signature required. My attorney took care of everything for me.

depending upon the state, it usually is the case that the divorce can occur only if both people sign.
