The phone technology and service is so much better and advanced in those countries compared to the US. Why can't that stuff get here already? We are like a year or 2 behind.

A stereotype of US ppl that cells are just telephone and for sending SMS only. It drags the potential of cell phone down.

I don't know where you get the idea European cell phone is better. When they opened up the initial bidding for the airwaves, the Europeans way overbid the prices. European cell phones are way expensive because of that.

If we call a mobil phone from our wall phone ... WE have to pay a charge to make that call. If you want to download a picture you snapped with your cell phone camera, expect a charge on your bill for around 40-60 euro to get it off the internet. Same holds true for those ringtones and stupid little computer games.

Because Europe is a collection of countries it's just too easy to get hit with roaming charges.

The originator of wide-spread cell phones is Nokia and I'm sorry, I consider Nokia equipment pretty primitive.

I consider all this extravegent billing very backward. Give me the one-price system available in America. I might investigate the ability to use a cell phone as a "debit card" for train fares, coke machines and the like when that becomes available in America.

Because most of our phone technology comes from Japan. Just like video games. Europe is closer to Japan, so they get it first.
