It seems like nowadays that Google searches only yield results from websites that pay to be "prioritized". While this isn't illegal, this seems pretty dirty since Google is thought to be a "FREE" search engine. It will find really old web pages, but any recent ones don't tend to turn up unless you pay them money. Can anyone corroborate this? Does anyone else have a problem with this???

Paying gets you to the top or the right, in the paid link areas.

Google will find you eventually, if you can be found. You can use various free or paid softwares or you can notify them and other search engines that you are around.

It took a year or more for my sites to be fully and permanently registered. Now my sites are linked to by trusted sources (universities, the US, UK and French governments, various bibliographic sites) so I get a fairly high priority. But mine are vanity sites, in the sense that they show off my scholarship and provide priimary source materials and public documents. If I sold anything the answer might be different: I have no ads.

When I want to put a new page up, I usually link it invisibly using HTML code on one of my main pages. I used to have index pages but now most of my internal pages (of which there are hundreds) are indexed by Google and if someone wants to search within my site s/he'd have to search as <[what I'm searching for] site:dot.com>

I have a free subscription to http://www.statcounter.com so when I'm curious I can find out who's been looking at what on my site.

IndyMom, I don't know the answer. Hopefully someone else reading this does. I have never created my own web page. Good luck with finding the answer. Jolie

My site shows, but I use linking. If you know CGI, you can get a link script to install. Also there are some web sites that offer free link exchange. The more sites that point to yours the better your chances are of google finding your site. Keywords don't seem to be as important as they used to be, but still make sure you have some good ones.

I thought google went on popularity or hits. When I first had my website up and searched it, you couldn't find it. A few months later it started to show up...the longer I had it the more towards the front it go. I never paid for it.

Its not true.. You should try linking your website to high traffic websites & DONT submit your site to google or yahoo for inclusion; it will do it automatically within one month & this automatic procedure will give you better ranking. Just make more inbound links (links on other websites which point to your site), post on some good forums, exchange links with quality similar websites....

Have you ever used meta tags? They increase your websites indexing for better search results.
