I am from the UK. I met a young lady from America two years ago and she told me that when her father took her mother to meet his parents he told them that she was Italian when she was really Mexican. I was appalled that her father should behave in that way as if he loved his wife he should not be ashamed of her ethnic background. The young lady did not seem to see the implications of his actions but only recognised that her grandparents would have been upset if they had been told the truth. It seems that Americans have a serious problem with this kind of thing. How sad! I am the exception (referring to your last question) because of MY background and because I am accepted here for what I am and what I represent in my life. Therefore, I am SO SO glad to be living here in the UK.

My parents and grandparents treat everybody equal, but in private they refer to minorities in a degrading fashion. I have nothing to be ashamed of. I'm not in any way responsible for their actions. They should certainly be ashamed of themselves.
As for my future kids, they hopefully will have no reason to be ashamed of me.

My parents are racist, sexist, and homophobic. And that makes me ashamed since I hate people like that.
I don't want kids, so there won't be kids that'll be ashamed of me. Besides, I'm not prejudiced of anyone. :P
