Get custody of your son. That will take most of the financial strain (ie. writing cheques) away. You'll get a lot more credit in court if you have the economic responsibility to house and care for your son. Depending on whether or not your spouse works, you may still have to provide alimony. However, if you get custody, sue her for child support.

If your lawyer tells you that you'll have to provide her in the lifestyle she's become accustom, hire a different lawyer.

Have you given her an ultimatum?

Yes she can be thrown out. I've known many an alanon that have given their spouses the boot. Frankly, the lawyer is wrong.

Don't enable her sorry butt anymore.
I've been in recovery for 20 years. the ONLY way and alcoholic will get recovery if every means of visible support disappears..
Then maybe they will change.

Take your son's and leave. Leave her with a couple liters of Vodka and an AA Big Book,Ask her to make a choice, sobriety and family or booze.Tell her you and the boys will not return until she has a year of sobriety under her belt.

You need a new lawyer. If she is an addict, you should be getting the kids and she will have to pay you child support. There is no way an addict should get the kids in this situation, even an ex-addict. You've proven yourself, fight for your rights as a father!

yeah, most of us now do take a beating. Might just be easier for you to leave the country -- I'm serious. These druggies are something else, and their attorneys bleed us dry with a trocar!!!!! The whole thing is a crock

You married for better or worse. Hang in there until the last kid is out of the house. I am sure you both have issues to work on.

Good luck!

That totally sucks for you. I think she needs to get a job and clean her act up. Take the kids. Fight for custody. If she is an addict you can use it against her.

Normally, women win in divorce's. In your case, the woman in question is a drug addict, which makes it worse for you, since drug addicts are greedy. I'd advise you to get prepared; she's going to fry you!
