Yeast needs oxygen and glucose to respire aerobically and will produce CO2 and H2O.

For anaerobic respiration it only needs glucose and it produces alcohol and CO2.

One vessel to grow yeast could be a flask and you sterilze the loop in a bunsen burner flame.

Yeast can utilise most types of sugar, not just glucose and will respire anaerobically in the absence of oxygen; until the alcohol level kills it.
I'd guess at a vat for the vessel.
And you sterilise the loop by heating to red in a flame.
(then cool by dipping in the plate before the yeast)

For yeast respire aerobically they need to be aerated, but they can grow in anaerobic conditions. Yeast can be grown in flasks (about 500ml at a time) or on a larger scale in a fermentor (the one at my work is 30L but they can be larger).
The loop is dipped in 70% ethanol and then heated in a bunsen flame to sterilise it. Or just heated in the flame depending on the lab and the type of loop.

I did learn this ages ago but I can't remember much except that yeast can be used to make ethanol (alcohol) through anaerobic respiration.

Adequate Oxygen i think ;-) in absense of it fermentation occurs
