for my class project, i am doing research/designing for global giving, which is a place where they list causes and people can find a cause to support. so i'm just wondering, what makes you want to contribute to a cause or help others? is it seeing people living their real lives in negative environments? any answer will help. thanks. =)

I do help others, but on an individual, one to one level. Things like helping out people I know personally who are having a rough time, or buying groceries for an elderly person in the neighborhood whom I know is having a hard time doing so for themselves. Volunteering to give someone a ride who has no car or thiers is in the shop.

I've found that when you give to large organizations, very little of that money actually goes to help people, most of it goes to pay salaries of those who work for the organization, political lobbying, and bribes, often full out corruption. I firmly believe that charity begins at home, in your own area.

All things considered, I've had a pretty decent life. I personally feel a moral obligation (I think this is about the only thing I consider a moral obligation, by the way) to help out those who need it--just because I haven't gone through it doesn't mean I should ignore those who are; in fact, that makes me more likely to help. Over the past year, that's included building houses around New Orleans; I'm also nearly finished with the first of the blankets I make for the homeless selter each year.

No individual or even any one group of individuals can help every one in need... There is "need" everywhere... I feel it is best to meet the needs closest to me first... then, as resourses are available, spread out to the need that seem most pressing and can be most resonably expected to benifit from what assistance I might be able to offer...

Even the entire wealth of Bill Gates would not make the smallest dent in all the needs and suffering in the world right now...

There is no need for any to be hungry in the world...there is more than enough food available...it is not any lack... it is politics and greed and religion, that keeps the food available from reaching the starving... and yes, I have "been there"... I have seen the generocity of this country stolen and sold by the greedy leaders of starving people. I have seen enough supplies to bulild and equip a school stolen ...with the help of American diplomats... and given to a private school of the rich...

Aid needs to be on a more personal level... Governments are incompetent in dealing with genuine need.

For me it is the fact that for so many years after a 13 year battle with drugs; when I first got clean so many social services agencies assisted me and my two children. I give to United Way and other not for profit organizations geared towards families and others who may not need a hand out but just a hand.....As a result I have 13 years clean and never will forget the help that was given to me when I really needed it. My gratitude shows when I give back and give back sincerely from my heart.....I hoped this helped u some................................

What I'm working towards right now is a career in the missionary field. Just watching a video or two about how these poor children in places like Kenya die after the first few years of life changed my life. Two of my best friends are out to change the world as well. Go check it out...

If I get points for helping people I would love to help them. Just kidding. I am not sure how can I help people. I am a very lazy person, and can't even help myself. But I think active participation in a certain activity is a great motivation for me. And if I can contribute I would love to do so.

I think it's when we can identify with a given situation. I find the older I become and the more life experience I have, the more I understand and the more it is an honour to help others, even in small ways.
