I love helping people but, I definitely CANNOT bend over backwards!!!......

haha ur funny.. but if ur being inquisitive ill humour you.. its a figure of speech! its not physically possible to bend over backwards.. but some people just expect u to do that

That's the idea. Few people can actually bend backwards without permanently injuring themselves or without great strain and discomfort. But if you're willing to "bend over backwards" for someone, you'll willing to risk all of that to help them because you know they really need it.

It is because humans can't generally bend over backwards that they say this. It means "I'll do anything for you, no matter how difficult or even impossible".

ok, it's figurative. Bending over backwards is nearly impossible and therefore what you are saying is that you would do the nearly impossible just to help someone out, you would go "out of your way"

Well obviously they don't mean literally bending over backwards....that is just an old saying people use to say to emphasize their willingness to go over and beyond normal means to help others out......................

well then you're not as good as a friend as some.
see some will do anything to help others in time of need or other.. they will try to accomplish the impossible even if they fail.
