first log on to yahoo messenger then click on "messenger"(in your yahoo messenger you will see "messenger",contacts,actions and help).
after clicking on messenger click on yahoo!chat, then click on join a room you will see rooms of different variety starts opening choose your favorite topic(for example Government and politics then choose any sub room. hope this will help.
