Thanks folks for your answers. Sorry for being ignorant but I'm from Japan typing this message from Tokyo. I sometimes see this sign John:316 during games.
I guess my next question is why do people show that sign of all places, during a baseball or football game?

Well, as the other person said, what better place to get the Word of God out to a large amount of people.. Not only on tv, but, those at the game, as well.
And, nothing wrong with not knowing something, that's how we all learn things.
And, John 3:16 says that, "For God so loved the world, that He sent his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him might have everlasting life."
God bless you and Keep you.

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved.

So people will become curious and look for the meaning. Sporting events are about the only venues where the audience is shown and the audience is visible and well lighted.

"hey, you want to go out and enjoy a nice baseball game, well while you do im going to bother you by forcing my personal beliefs in your face"
