There is a bond between the US and Britain that seems to have been stronger than between the two of us and other nations. It may lie in shared language or many cultural similarities and ties between Americans and their British/Scotch/Irish ancestors. While we did not contribute troops or weapons of war in the Falkland War, President Reagan did allow British bombers to land and refuel on an American island that was about halfway between England and the Falklands. Britain never asked for active military assistance since the knew they could take the Argentinians on their own.

Britain didn't need our help, at least not so overtly as you suggest. You don't think we helped them? Guess again. I cannot say more - I'm bound by promises of secrecy I cannot break. Britain was well strong enough to win that conflict, as they easily did, without our help. Besides, that quarrel was between then & Argentina - we had not business getting directly involved.

It would have been embarrassing to Britain to ask our help. Also, the US wasn't ready to so totally renounce the Monroe Doctrine than we were already by not intervening on Argentina's behalf.

I don't think Britain asked the US to help it.
