I've heard of many studies, that show that private is better. But a new one recently by the DoE showed that public was no worse. And even more recently another study discovered errors in the DoE, and showed that its conclusions were all wrong. Thoughts?

Private education, no doubt. Private schools cost less per student that government schools. They are not bound by ridiculous government rules regarding what must be taught and union contracts governing how teachers can be fired. They are also "in it for the money" so to speak. They have to produce results otherwise they will fail. Public schools will never go out of business and therefore have no failure point to strive away from.

Public schools also attempt to comply with government mandates by pandering to the lowest common denominator, lowering standards until everyone passes. Private schools have higher standards.

Private schools also tend to have higher standards of discipline, i.e. they can kick someone out without being sued for years. Public schools are a right, according to the Supreme Court, and accordingly it can't be taken away without full due process.

Finally, there is also the old idea that things gotten free are easily discarded. Parents have to actually pay for private school, public schools are free. Private school places are regarded like items of extreme value in that case. Something not to be thrown away on lack of studying or discipline problems. Parents are more likely to push their children to do their best.

A free education provided by government is a waste of money .
RICH people pay for schools in poor neighborhoods that fail to educate the children and waste money .3 years is enough to teach them how to add and read some . this is all millions of Americans need to go to work .ALL this extra eduction should be paid by corporations that will need the higher skilled workers and not at my expense .These kids today need to be working and not wasting the most productive years of life watching tv and playing video games on there parents dime .
THIS system we have does not prepare kids to co-exist and work with the better educted and more gifted students who have much higher intelligence by going to work young and saving for several years they would get a head start against the smarter kids who will spend there live's trying to exploit and take everything these working kids will ever have .

Private Education is by far the best and you'll definitely
get your money's worth out of it. The DOE should be abolished and save the taxpayers billions of dollars.

I went to private school. It was a great education. I actually learned to think for myself. My youngest sister goes to public school now and I am horrified at what she isnt learning. They let kids use calculators for simple math for Gods sake. Its not wonder our kids are getting dumber.

Public education is such a money swallowing joke it should be eliminated. It fails again and again, teaches everything but core subject matter though I do give them credit, most teens do know where to buy condoms now. Hope I didn't hurt anyone's self-esteem.

I heard the same thing on NPR but it was buried because the Bush administration does not want to undercut private religious schools.
