Anyone know when it is usually known for sure if a woman is pregnant with more than one child?

I recently found out that I am pregnant for the second time. I was taking Metformin for diabetes and according to Motherisk, it's now being used as a fertility drug and I have a higher chance of a multiple birth. I know that sometimes one baby "hides" behind another. When would you know for sure that this isn't happening?

An ultrasound will generally be the only sure-fire way to determine whether there's more than one baby in the womb. They used to rely on heartbeats but those can echo. A very large-for-due-date uterus is an indicator, as can be exaggerated pregnancy symptoms, but the ultrasound is the way to go to see how many of the little angels are actually swimming around in there.

Watch your HCG levels. If it triples or quadruples within 48 hours it is a good possibility. I never had my HCG levels told to me....But, I went in for my 10 wk checkup and couldnt find a HB so they did an u/s and sure enough there were 2 babies beating the crap out of each other! Litterally! Baby A was kicking Baby B in the head repeatiously. But, other than that I havent done alot of research on EXACTLY when i just know how you can tell by HCG levels. Which may be the only way to tell unless you do an u/s

My sons dad is a twin. His mom did not know she was having twins until they were born. One hide behind the other the entire pregnancy. When they found the heartbeat they only heard one because of the hiding. Good luck

Definitely at a sonogram, but usually they notice strangely high numbers with your hCG levels on the first blood draw.

They can usually tell by the first sonogram (at 11 - 12 weeks).
