I have had these stupid jeans for over a year, and have washed them well over 100 times, yet they are still stiff, thick, dark, and uncomfortable. How can I get them "worn in" besides the obvious wearing them often (I've tried. Still stiff.) I've heard that washing new jeans in vinegar prevents them from fading. Anyone out there know how I can get them lighter and softer? I'm about ready to donate them.

Wash them in hot water. Put rock salt in the wash cycle and be sure to use plenty of fabric softener in the rinse cycle.

Tumble dry with tennis balls.

It may take repeated washings, but the abrasion, heat and fabric softener combo will work.

Levis Hard Jeans

If you added a little bleach - just a little to the water when washing your jeans it should lighten them. As far as them being stiff - are they getting rinsed properly? Maybe you are using too much detergent and line drying them? If so reduce the amount of detergent and dry them in a dryer on medium or soft heat and they should soften up. You might try a little fabric softener in the rinse water as well.

Buy Purex bleach fill your wash machine and let it agitate then stop and add your Levis.{I am letting you selelct how much purex you want to use} I usually started with 1/2 cup and you can use more later in your next wash...Add soap to your wash also and downey in the rinse. Your Levis will come out soft and faded and I have used This remedy for over 25 years. Remember you can not use Clorox bleach it has to be Purex bleach...
Good Luck to you!!!

You can soften tem up by putting them on and have someone use a hand sander in the seams. (not to much at one time it will eat up the thread) As far as fading put them in the washer with 1/4 cup of bleach...let the machine full up with bleach in it first, then put the jeans in the washer if they are not faded enough repeat. (Be careful not to get any bleach directly in the jeans..Hope this helps....good luck.

Reapted washing will help 'soften' the fabric.

Soak them in a bath with a little bleach, just two cap fulls, leave for about 6 hours. This with lighten them slightly and weaken the fibres therefore maiking them softer.
