For my sons 8th b-day I was totally out of ideas, plus it was raining. I ran to the grocery store and bought rolls and rolls of freezer paper and washable markers. I then covered the walls of my sons room completely, from floor to ceiling with the freezer paper, handed over the markers and told them to get busy. They had a blast. I used a small stapeler to apply the paper to the wall, you could not see the holes after the paper was removed. My son left up his "murial" untill his next b-day, he liked it so well. They drew pictures, signed their names and wrote happy birthday everywhere. I have since removed all the artwork, rolled it up and put it in storage, awaiting the day they graduate from high school when I can throw them a graduation party with the artwork as a decoration and a reminder of how sweet they USED to be.

Always keep it simple and you will keep children entertained, anything too extravagant will bore them.Depending on the age group you could create simple contests with a number of rounds and have prizes for the winner of each, then after a few competitions you could have a final round and give a grand prize. But be sure to keep it simple enough so that each child has a equal chance to win and for those that dont win still give them a token of some sort for participation.
